The house we had in California was very small. I'm talking humans and animals bumping into and falling over each other small. Our Idaho house isn't huge, but it's bigger than what we had. So when we moved in, everyone jockeyed for their idea of the best seat in the house. Like Sheldon Cooper, we now have our spots.
This is Bruce's spot. Wait a
minute...isn't that Sheldon's spot, too?
This is my spot. Near the warmth of the wood stove in the winter, next to the open window for the summer breezes, with a view of both the interior of the first floor and the yards. Perfect.
These are Charlotte's spots. This one is on my side of the bed, just below my pillow.
Then she discovered the window seat, which is supposed to be my reading spot. Don't disturb the animals! I guess I'll go sit in the rocker...
Rumi is our wild cat and used to live under the bed in CA. He came out of his shell when we moved up here and adopted the spot in the middle of the head of the bed. In other words, no more spooning for the humans.
Although he does like to pose for the camera sometimes:
Bella, Mabel and Cody all found their spots quickly and have pretty much stuck with them.
Hey, looks like Charlotte has a third spot!
Scout, our youngest cat and newest member of the family, has many spots. When she's missing, it sometimes takes us awhile to find her.
Is she by the back door, looking at deer?
Is she in the bathroom window, looking at squirrels?
Or is she sunning herself in the dining room?
No, maybe she's enjoying the cozy guest room.
Or she could be in that cozy
fleece-lined kittycat hut we bought that
she ignored for a month and we thought we would have to donate it to the shelter but then she decided it was her spot. Yep, that's where she is!
So now that we all have our spots, or, in some cases, multiple spots, it's sometimes difficult to leave the house. I can't remember the last time I cuddled up in the window seat to read, even though I spent months picking out just the right pillows and getting a custom bookcase made to sit next to it.
I'm going to grab my book and go sit in it right now. Wait, I have to make dinner first. Then I'll go sit in it. Right after I walk down to feed carrots to the neighbor's horses. Then I'll go sit in it. But only if the cats aren't sleeping there. I don't want to disturb the animals.
Cody Bear was not happy with me when I was sitting on his spot last month.
